    98/99 spx motor into my 97 gsx…

Just thinking out loud here... If I can find a good xp/spx ski with the 787 motor for cheap ($2K), I was going to swap motors and resell to recoup my loses. Aside from the newer ones having an accl. pump, the only other problem I could think of is if my MPEM (timing mapping) not working with the newer motor. any thoughts or other problems I might run into? Thanks,

    1st choice 98/99 spx
2rd choice 96 xp (may need RAVE valves updated?)
3th choice 97 spx (may need RAVE valves updated?)
    4th choice 1996 gsx

Hey Al, the engines are the same, the ignitions are what is different. All ignitions have the timing adjusted through the MPEM. You might have to get a programmer to change your timing to accomodate the new engine build, but I'd run it first to see how it responds. 1 degree retarded more than your old engine will be noticeable as a performance loss.

Thanks Robert, if it involves the dealership or getting someone else involved, I’m SOL (no contacts here) maybe the 96/97 is a better choice…just wish I could find another GSX that was ~2500-3000, then I wouldn’t have to consider this alternative…$1,200 for just a rebuild doesn’t seem like I’m getting my $$$ worth. If I can find a donor ski for 2K, do the swap, then resell for 1k ??…I don’t know, like I said, just something I’m tossing around in my head lately... hope to see ya'll at the last ride (where ever it's held)--Al

Hey Al...it doesn't matter what year, as any engine could be timed differently than your current one. We have a buddy with a programmer that could fix you up, no biggie in that department. If you find one, pull the trigger...timing is no big deal...
