How do you "true" the intake grate?

Hey guys. I finally got 10 hours on my new rxt and now i want to start to do a few mods on it. I would like to start with filling the rid plate holes, but i have also heard about truing the intake grate to the ride plate. How do you do it? I tried to do a search for info, but the only one i could find was a thread by Jerry but the pictures would no longer come up. It was 3 years old. Any help with info or pics found be a huge help. Thanks as always guys. Hopefully after i start to learn more about this stuff i will be able to return all the favors and help one of you guys out.

I just did mine this past weekend. I wish I had taken pictures. Basically, what I did was grind the intake grate on the underside where it rests against the pump shoe and rideplate. I had to grind about .120" worth of material off. I used a 2 hp craftsman 9" body grinder. Since the rideplate is aluminum, it grinds it pretty fast. After mounting it up, I did the final sanding on bottom side (the part that sits in the water) with 60 grit paper on an electric vibratory sander. Now it's pretty much flush with the rideplate. Then, I filled in the gap between the intake grate and the rideplate and sanded that smooth.

Oh, I also had to shorten the stainless screws after decreasing the thickness of the intake grate because the screws bottom out now before the intake grate is tight. Everything came out great! It did take about 4 hours to do it all though....

Here is a graphical representation of where I started grinding. You can probably get the idea.

I only had to take a little off the sides on my RXP; then I filled the gaps with "Right Stuff".

OOOHHHH. Thanks a lot WOT. I thought you were supposed to grind it all of the bottom side. Good think i asked. Thanks a lot for the info. What did you use to fill the gap with, silicone?

I used Quick Steel expoxy putty to fill the gap. If your intake grate is not misaligned by much, you could probably grind all of it off of the bottom. Mine was off by a bunch so I ground most of it off of the back side and then the final touches on the bottom.
