Question Torquing with an extension? False readings??

Just wondering if when torquing a bolt and using extensions to make it possible, will this affect the actual outcome? Will the reading be 'true' (+-)

as long as you keep everything square (extension to the torque wrench), the reading will be true.

If you use a crows foot then just attached it at 90 degrees and your good to go.

I disagree, I believe if you use an extension, it WILL affect the reading.

It will only affect the torque reading if the torque adapter/crowsfoot is not at a 90 degree angle to the torque wrench. If it is a socket, it will not affect the torque reading. Take the advice from a 30year jet mech.

To RXP Steve: So you are the aircraft mechanic who over torqued to L1011 and DC-10 engine mount bolts. You should have read the Maintenance Manual about torque wrench adapters and extensions! It does matter. Aircraft Tech rep. 40 years.
