Common 1998 XPL Problems and fix help

I have just finished rebuilding a 1998 XPL and along the way understand there where a few problems. What are the common issues and fixes? I found these so far:

    1) Exhaust leak (fixed by getting a 2001 o-ringed exhaust header)

    2) Fuel line rot (replaced all fuel lines)

    3) Fuel pump issues (mine still seems ok)

    What else?

block the large holes on the front under the hood and cut bigger holes at the rear of the engine opening, like the later models

Mine where made by Dan (waterworx). They fit snug in the OEM opening.

Thank you for all your help. What I was mainly curious about was enlarging the rear hole. What does that mean? Did Bombardier block off these holes in later XPLs? Anyone have pics of a 2001 or 2002?

Did the later models have the front holes blocked off or did they just not make the holes?

Where in the rear did they enlarge them? Any pics of these later models?

NO HOLES on the '00+. Don't bother enlarging others. This hull gets plenty of air.

The best mod you can do is flame arrestors, jetting and timing. This motor comes alive with a little investment(~$100).

Flame Arrestor: Fly or ProK w/out outer-wares ($80)
    Carbs: (adj for altitude..)
    --disengage accel pump activator.*
    --re-jet to 2.0 NS(stock), 80G spring, 162.5 HS(3/4 turn out), 90 LS(1 turn out) ($15)
Timing: bring ski to dealer and have them adj the timing to +2 degrees (#3 on the programer) ($5 or 4AA Bat)

    * If installing primer: remove accel pump w/block-off and use the acc-pump fittings for primer.

Did they add holes under the seat?

Here is a great fix for the air intake. I purchased the tube extenders at Home Depot and they have worked great. I did not ad any extra holes.
