    Help me understand Advent ignitions

    I am runinng a 12r w 150 lbs head,VF reeds, blah blah....ski runs good.

I understand the ignition advances/reatrds timing but I thought it was to be better than the stock set up.

I was able to bolt up a Advent yesterday and with the curve set @ 84. I lost about 80 rpm's and .8mph ski felt like it gained 100 lbs.

The ski it came from felt like it gained 300 lbs without the Advent. Especially in the middle 30 - 70mph it lost 80 rpms without the Advent.

The other ski is a 13r with Lowell porting.

I am guessing the larger transfer ports and/or port timing is why the Advent made a huge difference on the 13r ? I am thinking it simply breathes better.

We did the swap right there @ the ramp took maybe 20 minutes and I changed nothing else.

We did verify none of the curves were accidently changed or anything like that. When I switched back to the stock ignition I got back my 80 rpm's

Something is def wrong here, I just don't know what.

I can't imagine life without an Advent on my 1200R. Almost 100 RPM gain, 1 mph, and MUCH better hit.

Does the other boat have the high power Seadoo coils? If so the switch would need to be moved for your stock coils.

84 curve should have given you 60-80 rpms with much improved holeshot.

They do however have many issues with failing and acting funny but that would have occured in both boats.

When I went ported big bore (1300), my ski ran like hell with the standard ignition. The modified ignition curve of the Advent made all the difference in the world, for obvious reasons. If yours is laying down, re-check all the settings on the unit and retry it. Something isn't right.

I was told by advent that coil switch in high output will work with stock coils,it was removed on later units, what curve you running?

It was my advent that mrbtd used and I run stock coils.
I was stumped on this one as well.
All I can think of is that we had a switch in wrong spot, but as Bill said we did check and it looked correct for 84 curve.

That was the only thing I could think of that might be different. The 1200 should have loved the 84 curve.

I'm with Fullboogie on this, the stock ignition with BB ported was ok, but with advent the motor comes alive
