    Carbs I-body vs SBN

Fercho I had a talk with Art at Jetworks the other day and he was indicating that the SBN BlackJack conversion performed better than the I-body conversions. You and I had this conversation once if I remember right. He stated both were good but the SBN had better transition throughout the range. The 48mm I-body conversions he built for Spud he removed the Valve body assembly and replaced with ones from the SBN said it helps with transition. Have you heard of this or tried it before? could this be applied to any set-up?
The one from I-body is the one to the left and the one on top

I have not heard of this. As far as I know no watercraft manufacturer used the SBN since after 1999. The OEM I body carb for the GPR is a newer design than the SBN and it also has larger pumps. I am sure that the design of the metering block and pump volme was taken in cosideration. The only reason why I would go with SBN is because of the other available intake manifolds out there. It would be cool to have an manifold for OEM carbs that would accept the carbs by bolting the rack to it instead of the case. 48 Blackjack is 48 Blackjack, The jetting specs for both would be different on the same application engine because of their design. I have seen 2-3 different metering blocks and housings on the GPR I-Bodies, but I have not seen one perform better than another as far as I could tell

I am willing to experiment with the different valve bodies if Art is doing it there must be some merit to it. I have a good connection at Mikuni so I will order up enough to do two sets of carbs.

Mark I completely forgot about these skis and the Yamah SUV. Strange how Yamaha focused on the GPR with i-bodies and Acc pump to pass certain emmisions and not on the SUV

I set the I-body OEM carbs up on my ported 1300 with the older SBN Valve assemblies. I went with 2.0 N&S Gold spring 115 pilot 135 mains 1-1/4 out on the lows and 1-1/2 out on the highs. I also doubled up on the check valve. The carbs had instant response and transitioned without even noticing it, real smooth all the way. I do have them fat as I was breaking in the motor. This worked great IMO I will set up again with I-body style and see if there is a difference.

I flicked a booger at my fuel injectors and tapped on the throttle body to shake any rust loose. I am hoping to gain 8 mph by performing this modification.
