4-Tech cranks when it wants to...

I have a 2006 GTI with the 4-Tech and it has a habbit of cranking only when it feels like it. I put the lanyard on, every thing looks and sounds good, I hit the start/stop button and get nothing but a click from deep in the bowls of the hull. I pull the lanyard off and try again and keep repeating the process until it cranks and starts, it always goes eventually. Once it does crank it cranks normal and starts right up and runs fine. I have cleaned the post and the key, this seem to have no effect. I get no "evil" beeps and the diplay happily read "Welcome Aboard Sea-Doo" but all I will get is the click. Any idea what could be wrong?

Check your battery connections and the battery itself. My ski did this and the battery was 2 years old. I switched the new batt. from my 97 gti into my 2005 and it started like a champ.

My friends 2006 rxp does this too, sounds like a common problem.

if it does eventually start, then i'm inclined not to think it's the battery....i'm thinking the starter relay has just about had it maybe

have a voltmeter you can throw on the battery terminals?

Check your battery, starter relay, and starter terminals for a good connection and no corrosion. Same with your ground connections. If thats fine then i agree with Shibby.

It probably needs the relay replaced. It is very common, they go bad.

The starter relay fixed that problem on my ski. Little brown relay on the left side of the ski.

I think ski season is over for me anyway. I'll take a look at that as I winterize. Are Sea-Doo's breakdown happy? My machine is 13 months old with under 40 hours. I have a 1989 5.0 Munstang with 198,000 miles on it and have never had it break down on me. I see a lot of Sea-Doo issues on here and now I worry.
