Like the title says. Im cheating on Polaris.
But I could not resist for the price resist. It runs and starts quick. I dont know much about it just that it is a Kawasaki 300cc JS. I am not even sure the year yet. The only downside is that there is no HIN or title but I have already got that under controll. I have a budy that has a Kawi that he dont run or need so Im in luck.
Overall not in that bad of shape. All it needs is a new battery, some paint, TLC, new mats and a rider. Not bad for $100. cash

you will love it, the 300 was all that powerful, but a lot of fun.
Mine was 150 with a seized engine, that ended up being a rock in the impeller

Year on a Kawi is easy, last 2 digits of HIN are the year of manufacture.
You can also go to this website:
Enter your HIN and get mfgr info on your ski, including recall info. When it says your HIN is not valid, try a 1 where you entered an L or whatever, it took me a few tries to get it right.
I bought 2 440's last winter for $100, with no paperwork. Managed to get both registered in NYS very easily. Just a few forms to fill out. I'd try to do it the right way before I tried swapping HIN's. Not trying to be holier-than-thou, but it's a pretty serious crime if it turns out your ski was once stolen.

I feel like my $60 deal wasn't all that great now.. 550 with stuck crank, no paperwork either.

The only info I can find on it is I believe on top of the carbs/breather
USCG APP NO.
but Im guessing thats just a part number
I kinda enjoy this bargin hunting things, especially when you run into something. Pretty much the little kid on Christmas feeling. lol

Did you pull the little tray that's under the battery? Under that tray is a second HIN. Unless somebody REALLY didn't want anybody to know where this ski came from. Most people don't know there's a second number under there.
I had great luck with one of these Kawi's, my 89 440 needed only a gasket set and rings, and has been dead reliable. The '90 440 that I made into a 5fiddy has been, um, problematic. Bad crank, cracked cyl, bad stator, etc.
If you need OEM parts, and have time to wait, try these guys:
They are half the cost of my local dealer, but takes weeks to get stuff. I don't think they keep any inventory; if you order, they order from Kawi, and then re-ship.

Cant find any HIN number. There is a small section where the battery sits but no tray. On a side note it dont look like someone has filed anything down for that matter. Where the HIN goes near the back of the ski looks like it was just glued on before. There are no holes or anything. On my polaris the hin is riveted on and not like this. It dont look like anyone tried pry or anything of the such.
I was actually suppose to go pick up another one tonight for the hull and etc but come to find out it is a complete ski with some extra parts. So Im hopeing to get lucky again and can get it running. Im getting it mostly for the hull but if something works out I might be looking for another hull. lol
Thanks for the link Im gonna keep that booked marked. Looks like parts on ebay are thin for that specific engine/ski.
