    Amoeba strikes in Lake Havasu AZ

    another bad report out of AZ on this Amoeba getting into
    your nose and eating your brain. I thought this was a bad
    Sci Fi movie until these recent news stories.

    Learn something everyday. I had thought FL was the only state with this problem. I heard 3 people had died from it in FL this Summer. The last one got it in a swimming pool !!

    Record high temps in the states is the cause. The amoeba at hand (Naegleria) thrives in the slow moving bodies of water where the temps are over 80 degrees (actually in the soil, not the water, but gets stirred up by agitation to the bottom of the bodt of water.)

    The lethal route of entry is the nostrils. While infection is still very rare, this has to be the worst year on record for this nasty bug.

    Another month or so and the water temps should cool enough for the amoeba to die off.
