    The Torch Works!

I took a propane torch to various parts of that SL750 I'm parting out and it really made a difference. It didn't make things look new, but it did bring back the original color nicely. I used it on the rub rails, handlebar pad, and grab handle.

I'd think it would work great on the handlebar pad - as long as you wanted it to look like a floor mat afterwords...

Seriously though, on the handlebar pad? It didn't melt it?

    Pictures? especially of the pad.
I think lots of folks would be interested to know how they could rejuvenate their old handlebar pads - without turning them into scorched flaming jello...

The idea is not to hold the torch in one position very long. I used a fan tip to spread out the heat. The handle bar pad darkened in color, but by no means did it make it like new.

I think all that happens is that faded surface plastic is melted a little, getting rid of the oxidated look.

The key is to keep the torch moving, slowly but moving.
