    Recommended Optima Battery

I will be adding a second battery to my Utopia to run the audio system that I will be installing. Has anybody used the Optimas before in their boats? I'm looking at a Optima Blue Top D31M, but I just want to make sure this is the best unit I should get. Any suggestions?

    Optima

I run an Optima D34M Blue top in my 05 Sportster. I have had NO problems since installing this battery. I believe the battery before this was a bit under spec and I was having some issues, but since replacing this at the advice of another member here, the boat has been great! Check the difference in the D34M and the one you are looking at, I believe the specs, such as the reserve, are slightly different.

I found this link that was provided by TM1 when I asked my question:

    http://www.1st-optima-batteries.com/

Scroll down towards the bottom and you will see the D34M and the D31 that you are looking at. I guess the specs are depending on what you want. Looks like the D31 is a Large battery, where the D34 is a medium.

Not a bad idea especially for the beating the battery takes in the PWC/Jet boat environment the up front cost is more but the Optima will last. But that's not why I'm posting

Just so you know there are a few different battery box options for the Optima and others. I have them in my Offshore, mine were purchased from Eddie marine but a lot of others offer them. And no I did not spill paint in the bilge it looks much better with all the rigging and engines installed

I was thinking Optima, but then I noticed that the Sears Diehard Marine has a 36mo. replacement warranty. This is better than the Optima, for less money.

I do not know if the warranty is pro-rated or not, but it is another option. I am not buying a new battery until Spring, so I haven't checked out much.

Just remember the plates can move and electrolyte will slosh around in a conventional wet cell, but with a 36 month pro-rated that a few places like Sears and Autozone offer it may be more cost effective. If money is not the issue then I would go Optima with a nice heavy duty Bling-bling box.

My boat is an 07 so I have the original battery and will change it over when it stops holding a charge.

BTW I'm still running on the same batteries pictured above and this is their 7th season.

Did you do the battery wiring yourself or was it already installed?

Changed the routing and added the split wrap. Remember this is NOT in the jet boat.
