not so great day at the lake

not sure exactly what happened. It was running the stock cdi and a prop that held it to about 6700 rpm's in choppy water. Same jetting, gas and oil as I was running all season with sustained WFO operation around 7200 with a riva cdi. I think I lugged it to death. All the more reason to go back to stock Started to pull the motor. should have it out by the weekend with more pics.

looks like crown gave way at the exhaust port....deto. could have been from lugging.

I would say that it was definately from lugging it.

Weird thing is that I ran this prop before with the riva box and didn't have any issues.

Oh well, live and learn. I'll post some detailed shots of the autopsy so you guys can help me pinpoint the problem.

What kind of RPM's were you turning with the Riva CDI? How many hours did you run it with each box? Did you ever pull the head prior to this failure to inspect piston wash?

Damn that sucks Mike!! At least it made it most of your season.

Looks like deto to me as well. I am sure you will check everything real good and find the culprit.

ran about an hour with the riva cdi and this prop. rpm's were around 7000, but the holeshot was weak, so I put the other prop back in. Riva cdi blew, and I wasn't about to drop the$$ on a new one, so I put the stock cdi in with this prop to keep it off the rev limiter. there are a few pics of the wash in a few different threads. It was pretty rich, that's why I figured with the retarded timing of the stock cdi I would be more than safe. . .I guess not
