    03 1200 XLT help

ok so i took ski out today and here is were it is at...first to recap everything i have done
    -d-plate installed
    -block off plate 50:1 now
    -NGK Br8es plugs
    -two sets of reeds replaced
    -replaced fuel selector
    -servo motor is working

Started on trailer and ski revs around 7000rpm. Starts right up with no choke everytime. Dropped in water and idled out a little and then gave it to her and she jumped right out of the hole right up to 7000rpm and then instantly dropped to 5500 rpm and would not go over, feather throttle and would not get even 100rpm over 5500rpm. Dropped to an idle and gave to her again and it would jump out of the hole and up to 7000rpm and then instantly drop to 5500rpm and no more. It sounded great at 5500rpm and when it would first take off at 7000rpm it sounded great. I did this about a dozen times with the same results. One or two times i had to feather the throttle from idle to get it going but for the most part it was responsive.

Pulled out of water and it would rev to 7000rpm no prob. Pulled the pv cover off one and it is all gunked up. I will clean all three tonight but does this sound like gunked pv's?? also can i remove the pv without removing the exhaust it looks like two will be close to hitting the exhaust?

Open the PV's manually then run it. The bottom will be very bad but it should still rev out to the 7K.

Is there any doubt that your throttle cable is correct ? Make sure it is opening the throttle bodies all of the way.

I wouldnt run it much past 4500 on the trailer.

You mean BR8ES-11 plugs right ?

    My opinion:

WAY too lean on the oil mixture. Should be between 40:1 and 32:1
You need to put BR8ES-11 plugs in it, or gap the BR8ES plug to .043

I have never seen anyone run the oil mixture that lean. Could it be seizing when it gets warm????

actaully i am mixing at 32:1 on the xlt
    my gp1200 i mix at 50:1
and the xp i mix at 40:1
Had to go in the garage and check the jugs, i have each labeled

But the problem was here before i went with the block off, i just installed all the parts i listed above when i was trying to figure out the problem and had the exhaust off and doing the d-plate.

have you run it with the seat off ? I ask because you may have an exhaust leak which could choke down the motor.

if i had a exhaust leak i agree that it would choke down the motor but would it do it cause the engine to drop from 7000rpm to 5500rpm the second it hits 7000rpm?? i also think i would not be able to drive around at a steady 5500rpm. i will check again. thanks for the help.

but my real question is about the pv's and being gunked up, what effect they would have. i am just confused because it starts off great and then will just drop to 5500rpm and stay there.
