This is a sad situation for sure but there has only been one case at Havasu. The chances of you dieing in an auto accident on the way to the races is MANY MANY times greater than the chances of you ending up with this virus. I would take precautions but by no means would I tell everyone to stay out of the water.

Yeah, but dying in a car wreck is generally instantaneous. Dying from a brain-eating parasite takes weeks, and would probably suck pretty bad.

What do amoeba taste like? Chicken?

I'm too old and tired to be paranoid of a parasite. Life is toooooo short.

I say bring on the little water bug!!!

In the river at Havasu? It was my understanding that the virus only affected young children and must be in stagnant bodies of water in excess of 80 degrees. Is this thing mutating or what?

I wouldn't be worried about it guys. We had a scare here in Oklahoma a few years back and two kids died. It mostly happens to kids that play in the water along the shore.
