pros and cons--going from 97 spx to 02 rx

1.I was just looking for info on the handling--is it still able to do anything fun or just mainly a cruiser?

2.how does the 951 compare to the 787?

3.what kind of problems can i expect from the motor which has-i believe a SBT(the gaskets ect all are painted gray).Has 125hrs and 110psi pto/125 mag side?

4.AND LASTLY WHAT SHOULD I BE LOOKING FOR WHEN I TEST DRIVE THIS MACHINE?

Thanks and any info would be greatly appreciated.

2.how does the 951 compare to the 787? When taken care of and maintained, its a great powerplant...if the unit is carb'd, rejet the carbs, a set of flame arresters, and higher compression head, and it will wake that motor up...

4.AND LASTLY WHAT SHOULD I BE LOOKING FOR WHEN I TEST DRIVE THIS MACHINE? Hull damage, spider cracks, and oil leakage on the motor...

Thanks and any info would be greatly appreciated.

As both compression readings are low for this engine, I would change the schrader core in the compression gauge you are using. A leaking schrader will result in lower compression readings, and inconsistent ones too. Stock engines from the factory have all the gaskets painted also, so I don't follow your logic there

The rest Danny has you covered.

I'd add the RX is an excellent two-up ski, so if you have a sweet thing that likes to ride with you it is much more stable than the X-4.

The RX is like a big X4. A good rough water cruiser. Plus a 15 gallon gas tank. A very nice two up ski.

this is a brand new snap on gauge--tested it against my spx which has 145 and 148psi.so i would guess the gauge is good.

What should the readings be on a 951 motor?

I think the stock compression is around 145-150 psi.

Just as a heads up, SBT engines (if you want to call them that) usually have a little round dot sticker on them, chrome in color with a white dot in the middle. Those are their "overheating" dots that they put on the motors. It will also have a serial number usually on the MAG cylinder.
