    Fx Sho Hull Concerns

    The new yamaha fx sho is made out of a new material as everybody knows...NanoExcel.. i was wondering if you were to crack the hull how would you repairs it...would fiberglass work? are would you have to find some new material or bonding to repair it?

    its probably a market term for something more commonly known as something else,
    Ptex (ski industry term) is used on ski and snowboard bases, but its just common polyethelene

    The previous SMC used by Yamaha was repairable with epoxy resin, but any repairs would not be as strong as the original undamaged hull. Since epoxy resin acts like a glue, it will probably work on the new Nano SMC too.

    To my knowledge, Yamaha is the only boat builder to use SMC (Sheet Moulded Compound) for hull construction. Some other PWC manufacturers use it for their decks, but not for hulls. It can't compare to good hand layed up fiber glass construction for strength, light weight and impact resistance.

    im going to have to take issue with this.

    when the last time you saw a gpr hull delam? Hydrotoys has dropped his gpr off the trailer ran it into an oil tanker or two, jumped over an iceberg, he even tried running a bunk support thru the bottom of the hull and NOTHING has hardly even made a dent in the hull.

    SMC will not delaminate...it will crack and shatter ! Don't you think the 'big boys' would be using it on their mega buck race boats if it was better than the Kevlar, Graphite and Carbon fiber they are using ?

    SMC = JUNK !!
