Thread: Cavitation Rxp04

Hello, I am a newbie to this site but I have been watching for a while now and it looks like a good site to get information.
I have a 04RXP that got a ski rope sucked into it. We had to get underneat and cut the rope off the drive shaft etc. It wrecked the impeller and wear ring and caused cavitation. I just had the store replace the impeller with a Solas 14/19 and put a new wear ring in.
I took it out today for the first time and the thing cavitated much worse than before with the trim in the middle. When I put the trim up top it took off like a rocket with a very minute amount of cavitation. The new impeller certainly made a big difference with acceleration.
When I got home I looked under neath and found a little bit of the sealer on the ride plate was missing near the intake grate. I don't know if that would make it cavitate or not. It is spring here now and we want to take it out again every weekend.
Does anyone have any idea what it might be. (could it be the sealer on the ride plate etc.)

I don't think you fully understand cavitation.

A place for learning...
Ok..if he doesnt understand cavitation...why dont you tell him. This is a place for learning after all. Derwin66....You can also try the search button at the top, it has many things that have helped me out. Most of the subjects we talk about on here have already come up, so you soudl try there first. And I personally cant put cavitation into words because Im not that skilled yet in the arts of this machine.

Without trying to sound like a blow hard, I have been boating for some years and I am aware what cavitation is. it is sucking air from somewhere and is having problems 'getting out of the hole'. It doesn't seem to have this problem when it is at full trim.
Thanks Alaska I missed the search button and made a few checks and I think I must have some sort of problem around the boot or carbon seal. Will look into it.

This sounds like the drive shaft is bent not seen it on the rxp but the 951 units smaller shaft done a few just something to look at

Thats what I thought it was, but then I realised that with the old wear ring and impeller that had been damaged by the rope it did not have any problems getting out of the hole. It only had problems when doing really tight turns/spins. I looked at the boot and it appears alright, although I don't know a whole lot about it. The boot is in good condition as are the clamps.I think it might be the pump seal wasn.t put in right. I will find out on Wed when I take it back to the shop that did the impeller and wear ring.
What I did notice that when I looked down the intake towards the impeller and wear ring there was a sealant of some sort between the wear ring and the ski. Is it normal to use a sealant.

Well I found out what the problem was today. They didn't put the pump seal back in when they changed the impeller and wear ring. All AOK now.
