Why do some speedo read over 70, others don't

I have an 2005 RXP. Someone told me yesterday it is regulated not to read past 70mph, but a few of you have pictures showing 70++. How do I fix mine to read over 70, even though it may not be GPS accurate?

Can't fix it...most everyone posting speeds above or below 70 are posting GPS speeds because the stock speedo is so inaccurate.

how inaccurate? My 06 GTX non-suparcharged gave me 62 and thats the highest, it was low fuel totally flat out, so was that really like 59 or so?

That's weird. It's even an 04/05 in the pic. My 04 will do a solid 75.0 on the GPS, but the speedo is stuck at 70. Under 70, it reads high too.

this on is probably a good one for engineer mike ...my yamaha r1 has a speed limiter in it limiting the speed to 189 as if thet is some kind of safe speed it starts pulling timing keeping you at 189 the bikes will do 202 stock if you trick the spedometer into thinking it is below 189 they sell a devise called a speedo healer that you can use to correct"""the speedometer for gearing changes which is all good but you also install 1 from the speedo to the computer and tell the computer you are going slower no timing retard more speed all that possibility of tricking the speedo to show a faster speed??? just a thought

It's not limited by SD, the speedo wheel is a crappy way of tracking speed. 70 is the upper limits of its capability in water. If you fire compressed air at it you can obtain higher than 70 speeds. Better off getting a GPS unit that is accurate than relying on a plastic wheel to guess your speed.
