    Robert, are you around?

The last two times I went to take out my XP, I would hit the start button and it would do absolutely nothing. The multigauge is showing power. I try it a bunch of times with the same result. Then when I try it again, it starts no problem. I had it out in some big Lake Erie waves last weekend and once it is started, there seems to be no problems.

Of course today is a great day to ride and I go out to the garage and it won't start. I tried it 12 times taking the key on and off. Finally I got it to start 2 times in a row.

I checked the wires and even hooked up another starter switch with the same results.

    What do you think?

A new starter solonoid should fix the problem.

Hey Mike, went to TN yesterday to pick up my replacement 2000 XP.

Do you hear the starter solenoid clicking when you push the start-stop button? Or no sound?

    No clicking from the solenoid.

Glad to hear you found a replacement. It doesn't have a good engine in it by chance does it? At some point, I will be looking for one for my 98.

Check the top plug in your black box for a corroded pin, or a corroded pin inside the plug of your solenoid. Then piggyback the coil wires to a meter (while plugged in) to see if you are getting 12 volts to the solenoid. If you hear no clicking, and are getting 12 volts, the solenoid is bad. No voltage is probably the DESS post like Chip suggested.

On my 2000 ski...it was advertised on ebay "with only 83 hours!" When I arrived yesterday, lifted the hood, removed the tray and started the engine...piston slap city. The previous owner never fogged it. It will probably just need once-overs and a bore, just like I had to do to mine when my uncle owned it. The head has never been off. Let me know if you are interested, I am going to sell it.

Hey Chip...the hull is perfect...could not be better! 2000 XPL...just like I wanted. Don't know about a trip down next month yet...have to swap engines and see how she runs.

Thanks for keeping feelers out for me this summer though!

I have been out to the garage 5 or so times to try and replicate the problem. It is starting no problem.

Robert, send me a PM regarding the engine. How much would you want for it once it is "good" again? I could bring my XPL down to Norris in May.

I will keep trying the XP. It will probably fail before my last ride of the season.
