    (Damaged) Pump Support Question

Can anybody tell me what the purpose of the fins in the pump support do?
If they are a vital part to the pump. I was out putting some break in hours on my new ski and ended up sucking a rock.Ended up dinging up the inpeller and broke 3 of those fins off.Going to put a stage 1 kit in now that the impeller is shot but i was woundering if i need to replace the pump support or if the fins are not a big deal...Thanks

This has already happened to several members here. They cut the fins off and grind them down with no ill effects.

    Welcome to the forum.

Yeah you won't be able to tell the difference between fins in perfect shape and no fins. I am told they help in rough water conditions but other than that I'm not really sure of their purpose...

However you will be able to notice a huge difference between no fins and damaged fins. When I knawed my fins up it was cavitating badly on takeoff but grinding them out eliminated that...Matter of fact I even got a little happy with the grinder and my inlet is now far from smooth in a few places (we're chalking it up as a learning experience with a dremel tool)...I notice no preformance loss from that either...

Watch out for shallow water!! These things can suck a softball through a garden hose!

    I trashed a pump on a 03 gtx/sc a while back, lesson learned!

The RXT doesn't even have those fins or sharkteeth as they are referred to. Never did understand what they are there for.
