Do I remove whole air box from my 01 GPR?

I got my entire exhaust out tonight, and when I went to take out what was left of my air box, I took all that boxy plastic stuff to get to my oil pump--also taken out for a Block-off plate. Does the front section of the plastic air box in front of the engine serve any purpose other than to restrict water (and air!) from my carbs?

And I am going with aftermarket flame arrestors.

    Thanks.
    TD

You MUST rejet the carbs when adding FA's.Then you can take all that plastic induction/restriction crap out.

I like the PROK F/A's. They work great with Blackjacks too.
