    Depth Sounder

Has anybody removed the stock depth sounder in their boat and replaced it with another brand? If so, which do you recommend?

    Thanks,
    Cody

I've installed this one on my RXT in place of the stock one. I'm very happy with it. It has an alarm that you can set to miniumu depth, like say 6 feet. When you reach 6 feet the alarm sounds...Nice and very reasonable and good Customer Service. Talk to Patrick there, tell him Larry Fortune in Jax told you about it.

My boat did not come with one. So I installed a Hummingbird 383c. It has a lot of things i don't need, but I bought it for the depth finder & GPS features.

It installed very easy, I did the "through Hull" mount of the transducer (didn't want to drill into the boat if I didn't have too) and it worked great all summer.

    lafjax,
Am I correct in the understanding that the transducer for the depth guage in your link can be mounted inside the hull with no need to drill any holes. If so I am sold. Sucked up rocks last year dont want a repeat performance.

    Yes you are correct.

I mounted the puck in the same spot as the stock depth finder. The trick is to mount it solidly with 30 min epoxy...see my mounting in the thread. It works fine for me. The Micro version has the same puck and you can put the display anywhere, glove box, etc. The larger version I like mounted in my steering pad with a switch in the glove box.

When I traded skis I went with the standard one and mounted in the steering pad.
