    Water in pump grease

I removed the cone on my 03 GTX SC that has a new metal pump, the grease in the center of the cone was gold and firm, the grease around the rim on the cone was gray and loose, Is this a sign of water getting in?

What do I need to fix it?
I have the impeller tool and 12MM allen socket, so I can get it apart if needed, any other special tools ?

Mine leaked too. There are 2 o-rings on the plastic nozzle cone, replace them. Not sure about the pump on an 03 though.

was is a brandy new alum pump, or a used one? if so how many hours were put on it? did the dealer install pump under warranty?
were the tail cone screws secure.
if all of this is good, then apply anerobic sealant around the sealing area of tail cone. make sure it is dry and clean. put into service if everything else is good, run a few hours and check again...PR...

This was a brand new dealer built metal pump with a Solas impeller, it replaced the plastic one.
The bolts were tight, the pump had about 36 hours on it.
The dealer claims it was pressure tested when built.

well , sometimes weeds or twigs get caught up in there and put pressure on the prop/shaft, may let water in, so seal up the cone and try again, then look at it after a few hours, this is of course if the bearings and everything else are good...

Larry: I think permatex or loctite. it comes in a small tube just like loc-tite. it`s red jell type selant able to cure in no oxygen/air environment...
found at local auto parts stores...PR...

So I don't need to take it apart to repack the bearing with fresh grease?

I cannot make that call from here. is all the grease contaminated? or does it look like a drop or to entered thru the tail cone.
and if the dealer did it recently, then take it back and have them look at it...PR...

I would have to say it's contaminated, it was milky all around the inside edge of the cone, about 1/4 to 3/8"deep.
I'm in the northeast, dealer's in Florida.
