The engine should be at operating temp when you check it. It should be in the middle of the bends. If you are at home you should make sure that the ski is level on the trailer. Hope this helps

    Quote from the manual:

Before checking the oil level on this engine, it is necessary to warm-up engine and to let it idle for 30 seconds before shuttng it off. Thereafter it is necessary to wait 30 seconds. Then, the oil can be checked. This is required to allow the oil to properly level in the different oil chambers. Otherwise, you will have a false oil level reading. Watercraft must be level. Check oil level either with the watercraft in water or out of water. Engine should be warm.....if out of water, raise trailer tongue and block in position when bumper rail is level.
You want the oil level to be between the low and high mark.

    Hope this helps you.

Mine was about an inch aboe top mark cold. Ran it off the hose for 2-3 minutes. Let sit for about 2-3 minutes and it was dead in the middle.
