Unhappy What changes can I expect??

    Hi guys,

I have a GP1200R with Riva heads, riva reed stuffers, air filters, Stinger exhaust, free flow tube, 14/20 solas. I just put in replacement powervalves.

My question is after looking inside the electrics box I find that it's running on the bog standard stock ecu/black box. I thought the riva stage 2 kit included an r&d ecu.

What gains will I get if I put either the r&d or advent control unit on with the above mods???

Hopefully better performance than Im getting now

No performance gains on top end. Maybe a little cleaner bottom end. IMO an aftermarket ignition is not worth it until you have bigger mods.

Certain makes of cdi are known to catch fire.
That stinger is costing you big time- it dosent even look like the reletivly half decent(when comparted to the 1+2) stinger 3.
Without a cdi,or timing advance key, you don't need a free flow-that's costing you.
What have the carbs been re jetted to?
Others might disagree, but in my experience a 14/20 is a tad too much prop for you set up.
What are your rpms on a aftermarket tach?
I would not mind betting your below 7000 with above mods, and that's loading the engine too much.
Don't guess or skimp-get a tiny tach at least.
And yes, a full Riva stage 2 should have had a digital cdi #Ry11820
AND- Don't beleive Riva when they say no need to re jet!
Im running basically the same set up, but with turbo tube, sound suppression in, pro-tec head, jetworks mod, skat 13/19, stepped stock sponsons, bit of fine tuning on the plate, grate and tabs, and shoe-GPS 71.3 @ 7210. sea level.-And it's not to shabby out of the hole!

That is not true at all.

I saw almost 1 mph on top with the 84 curve and the acceleration and mid-range were significantly better. Test done within 20 min of each other. I couldn't imagine running a stock 1200r engine without an Advent.

So, by having Riva's stinger exhaust its actually slowing down the ski? Also a dealer in the uk told me the free flow will have no negative effect? So is that also untrue? The carbs are stock jets.

What do I need to do to sort this out. Shall I get a cdi or not. Any advise welcome, either pm me or reply.

Basically my ski needs to run right. Im not expecting massive top speed but would like to know what to do as at mo it's pi**ing me off, Im not useing ski for the next few weeks but when i next go out I want to try and set it up a bit better, so any advise or what to do's is very much appreciated.

Ditch all of the exhaust work you got. Go back to a stock exhaust setup with Riva D-Plate. Add a Jetworks Holeshot Kit.

    Rejet the carbs.

Get a tach see what your RPMS are. I bet they are below 7000. You need to be at 7150 ish. Get a 13/19 or repitch to 13/19.

    That should do you good.

Well depending on your current RPMS I would say 2-3 mph is possible.

Also get your ride plate modded by Carl, Islandracing.com, or Jim, Jims Performance. That is worth another 3 mph or so on top.
