Thread: 3 Failures

    3 Failures

I have a 2003 GP1300R, the front cylinder has failed 3 times. The first 2 the dealer repaired. This one I looked at the pistons and all are black on top, no piston wash. Definitely a lean seizure. What could cause this, air leak.

How many hours are on the boat?

    And

How many hours between each failure?

I would guess that it is going to be an air leak or a bad injector.

    3 Failures

275 hours on the ski. 25 - 30 hours between each failure. Fron piston has major damage, thrird one is bubbling on the top.

Should the service department at the dealer do a leak down test?

If they have "fixed" it twice, they havent found the real problem. I wouldnt let them do anything else. Can you post some pics of the damage? I am sure that we can help you figure out the real problem and get you back on the water.

Have you done ANY mods at all? Is the cat con still in the ski?

Did the dealer do the second one under warranty? Yes the dealer should do a leak down test. this is a must any time you have the motor apart this deep. I suspect since it has failed at the front three times more than likely the front crank seal is bad. 275 hours is is a lot if it is the original seal.
