pics of my homemade intake (free)

my roomate and I built an intake kit for his mazda, and the mounting location pissed his mass airflow sensor off so I had a bunch of pipe laying around and a neat looking filter as well as some of those neat rubber couplers. I removed that stupid plastic piece that hung down from the rear hull vent place so the filter would fit. Here is the end result. (moved the coolant bottle just for the pictures. This filter is supposed to flow 900cfm

Seat of pants feel was a very noticeable difference. It's my only mod and the ski pulled a lot harder with it on there. The SC is louder too.

Thanks! It's only 3'' pipe though. I think some people are using 4'' pipe. That same filter will fit a 4'' setup.

If it were mine I'd put someone thing near the vent to keep water from falling directly on the filter.

Did you put thru hulls or flow rites on the ski so it can get outside air or is it just getting hot air from the engine hull.

it's not right below the filter, but close. I wonder how well that filter will get water out?

I ripped the black piece off that extends to the bottom of the hull from the rear vent. That's the only fresh air it's getting. I plan on improving that

I found a similar intake at Auto Zone and am getting the same results. I am going to make an aluminum duct just like the stock plastic one but angling toward the water box to keep any water from dripping directly on the filter. Just too easy for the money, sound, and performance.

I dont think that having a rear intake or front intake really makes a difference. There is no way to really get enough cool air inside the hull without having the intake hose go all the way to the outside air.(As some people have done by taking the storage container out) This is just an easy way to get rid of the long stock intake and some of the restriction.
