Thread: EGT Testing

    EGT Testing

Here are photos of my EGT probe installation i will be testing and fine tuning my 43mm throttle bodies with. Using a Digatron system.
Going to use my 06 non ported 1300 to get some temperature baselines as it is dialed in pretty close. Distance from the piston exhaust port is pretty close, around 3 inches, which should yield cooler than normal temps from intake charge overlap.
Will post all info on EFI settings, temps, etc as they happen.

Nice job on the ex manifold, looks good, I did the same thing years ago, unfortunately....

EGT in a 3 into 1, 2-stroke exhaust manifold does not work correctly.
2-stroke Egt needs individual pipes for each cyl to give anywhere close to accurate readings.

The reversionary waves that make a 3 into 1 expansion chamber work also cancel out individual egt readings in each cyl. You might want to review how the big pipe with the cone in the end works... do a Google on 2-stroke expansion chambers, since that is what is on our gpr.

In my experience, you are better off getting cyl head temp probes that go under your spark plugs. This will give you a much better idea of what is going on in each individual cyl

Finally! Someone steps up and goes the right direction. EGT's are the greatest tool for tuning a 2 stroke properly.

My back ground comes from 10 years of building and tuning Sea-doo's. I have built little 785cc engines to run well over 70mph. But I never could have pushed that kind of power out of a 785cc engine without EGT's

Now, this winter I am planning a 1390BB single pipe build for my GPR. I really did not look forward in tuning this setup in without EGT's. But it seems not many people was utilizing EGT's on the GPR single pipe setups?? My thought was the exhaust manifold configuration would not allow fitting due to water jacket design??

Seeing Ross's work is very exciting!!

I look forward to watching the results! Thank you Ross!
