From what the GM at my local shop said...also an old jetski race fan there never has been a USCG rule for PWC...going any speed ,it has always been a Manufactures agreement. This was said at the last demo day at shasta here.

Gentalmens agreement if you would, which has been around for alittle while now. The Rxp just wanted to pass the mark and not a whole lot they could to about it. They tried several set ups to keep it around 65 from what the reps said back even when I went to the seadoo schools and other conventions. But it just wouldnt work with power to weight and prop and blah blah blah......which im sure some of it is a lie. Anyway thats the story
that has been around from what I remember.

No, the US Cost Gaurd doesn't want any PWC company making a factory stock ski that can go above 70.
The X's are going to be about like 68.7-69 maybe 70 ( the rxp-x atleast for all I know )

This has been discussed many times but I'll rehash it for new members. Since the vast majority of PWC's are sold in the States I guess were to blame for the world wide 70 mph barrier. There is no law, ruling, publication or anything in writing saying they can't go over 70. What there is though is the exemption that PWC's require to operate in U.S. waters. The USCG has conveyed their suggestion to the manufactures that in order to get this exemption they are to keep the speeds of the watercraft under 70 mph when fully loaded with gear and 2 passengers. If SeaDoo wanted to make a craft go 80+ mph and get the USCG to sign off on the inspection all they would have to do is equip the craft with all the safety gear that they get an exemption for now. Wonder how big this "PWC" would be and what would it cost?

They don't have to if it is a "race" only ski. If someone sold you a race car that was not street legal then it doesn't have to be approved by the NTSB.

Kinda like the RXX that you had to sign a waiver to purchase and no warranty. It was a lmited edition "race" ski. Did it even have the USCG exemption sticker on it?
