    Impeller Shaft Trouble

    I took a look under my ski today and look what i found. I pushed up on the shaft and there seems to be a hell of a lot of play in it on the engine side. When I run the engine out of the water it will resonate really bad above 2500 rpm or so. Is that normal? I assumed it was, its done it since new (20 hours or so now). I also have to replace the wear ring already. WTF?!?!?!?

    Oh yea, check out the fine silicon job they did on my ski. Fine craftsmanship there eh? Cavitation City. Bullsh*t City if you ask me...

    So do you think i should take this back to the dealer? I think so.

    somebody i know said for their ski the max allowable play in the whole impeller shaft is .004. Mine is like .05 (i can indicate it to get an exact measurement).

    actually, I have a feeling the caulking job there is NOT your problem.

    I see that the nose cone on your impeller is shredded. Major source of cavitation. I've seen the nose cone on the slide forward but I've never seen one come apart like that.

    Definately get the drive shaft checked, just in case. while you have the grate off, you can clean up the sealant , just make sure you don't chip the gel coat. I'd hate to see the pump tunnell delaminate.
