    Question about Bottom Paint

I am considering a custom paint job...my bottom does not 'need' to be painted but I would like to paint it to freshen it up and make it look as new as the rest of my idea...also once I remove the Sea Doo sticker from the side I think there will be some fading...

My real question is what procedure do I use to paint the bottom...? It won't be me but my buddy who has painted boats, cars, etc...he is a paint and body specialist and owns his own shop but I want to arm him with any 'tips and tricks' the greenhulkers know...

I obviously want to do it correctly, IF I DO IT, the bottom paint is my only concern because it sees the high speeds (TURBO!), the rest I think would be fairly straight forward....

Again I am looking for start to finish procedure on bottom paint for a high speed RXP!!!

    Thanks ahead of time...

is the bottom damaged, or just faded?

it's gelcote... any good boat guy should be able to wet sand scratches and buff that hull to look brand new

if it needs repair, then repair as neccessarry, and just buy the color matched factory gelcote and have him re-gelcote the ski. gelcote takes alot more abuse than paint typically

There is no damage to the hull....normal light scratches and such...

I just want it to shine like the rest of the new paint would...

Danny... you can get a gallon from gelcote.com .... i have an account with them, they are really cool. call them up and tell them what u need and they tell you straight up ur cheapest alternative

i placed an order with them once and they stopped my order and called me and told me to get it differently and it would be 75 bucks cheaper... i was blown away. real good people at gelcote.com

Arny... they should be able to sand and buff ur hull to brand new showroom condition as long as nothing is destroyed and down to the fiberglass. light scratches come right out... i like gelcote a whole lot more than paint myself

Thanks to Shib I know where to get the gelcoats...thanks again Shib

I do use a gelcoat for the upper deck too right...this is the silver part on my red/silver 05...?

The plastics will end up at Icerat4's shop...if he agrees to help me as I hope he will...

I have a idea in mind similar to RXPdoo's RXzapata RXP from FL that can be found on here... http://greenhulk.net/forums/showthread.php?t=36954

That is my personal favorite on RXP paint schemes...

Basically I want a black bottom... a 'Ferrari Red' top deck and some plastics to coordinate....I love the paint scheme on the Zapata hull RXP from FL...I want something similar to that...hope no hard feelings come from that...

Icerat4 I invite you to chime in and offer any criticism or advice on my ideas...and anyone else...I value others' opinions...good and bad!

I buy the material...unless he can buy it cheaper I pay him to get it...I bring a 12 pack and he will call it even...I will try my hardest to give him some cash....but he will not take it...you know the drill with really good friends!
