I say pull it down before the rod goes through the cases and takes out the cylinder. You can use a dial indicator on it to see if it is bent bad. It is an inexpensive fix if you do it now. More expensive if you do it later. Had a Sea-Doo supercharged engine suck in water, new it bent the rod. But the owner wanted to ride it for the weekend. It ran for a short period of time then it took out the block. That was a 2K oops after all was said and done. Plus it was down for 4 months waiting for parts.

well not to worry about the crank as its already getting fixed. I had seized the rear piston (thanks JR.) and I decided to send the crank off. Got a call today from Crankworks and low and behold, it had a bent rod. But it was the front rod, not the rear one. The only thing that I know that can cause a crank to bend a rod is liquid, whether it be gas or water. I am not sure how bad the rod was bent, but it could not be that bad as I did not even notice it when I inspected the crank. I am wondering if you can have a slight bend, enough to knock it out of phase and it still run for a long time. I was lucky that I seized a piston because you are correct, would have cost me more. I am also glad I did not just throw a piston back in it and rode it. Instead I opted to have the crank checked. Its only a $355 fix, that includes true and weld job.
Just wondering as I have had issues with my rpms and wondering if this was the problem all along. But probably not. But find out soon enough when I get it all back together.
