Thread: My custom 81mm nozzle

My custom 81mm nozzle, It's finnish!!
Because the RR reduction nozzle kit in Norway cost 800$, I decide to make my own
I grinded the inside of the nozzle to make it 84,7mm, and pressed in a allu-tub that messures 85mm on the outside and 80mm on the inside. A put the allu-tub in the freezer, and the nozzle in the oven at 100Celsius. And after 1 hour a carefully knocked in place.
Now it only needs a bit grinding to macth perfektly. The nozzle is now 80mm, but I will grind it down to 81mm...

Nice Job. You might want to consider putting two small set screws in each side though to keep from losing it..there is alot of pressure back there and once it wams up things have a tendancy to expand and come loose..Hate to see all that hard work lost in the bottom of river or lake

I had the set screws in my mind, but thanks for the tip
What do you think about leaving the extra length of the nozzle (10mm)??

I dont know enough about them that way BUT Accually the more I think about it i would probley make it flush cause your gonna need that water to expand a little for the steering nozzle..Have you had your steering nozzle on yet??does it touch?? If it were Me i would cut it..

No I haven't tried the steering yet. I'll try that tomorrow. With the longer nozzle I would expect the waterflow to be in a more straight line, and give me some more trust... I don't think there will be any problems with steering the ski.

i like the length..might get the nose up a teensy more..

I've been thinking of doing the same thing to a spare nozzle and TIG welding the insert. Rumor has it that the nozzle ID can be reduced by 1mm with a dozen coats of paint.

But when your not turning, the water almost doesn't touch the steering nozzle...
If it gives me anything, it'll probebly be be almost nothing, but everything helps. The ski is a stage 2++
