Hi guys, just fitted my new engine, OP ride plate, R&D intake grate, new Nujet 7.5 prop & new wear ring (if its called that).
Took it on the water & it really feels like its cavatating? High pitched screeching sound, difficult to get on the plane & looses power, but once on the plane goes like a Rocket?
Any ideas what could be wrong?
I know the prop is too steep, it tops out at about 6500rpm, so I will need to get another one I think...

What ski are we talking about, Kind of sounds like your dirveshaft coupler.

As some of the models have a rubber slip coupler, designed to slip in case you get something wedged in. It might just be worn out.

Its a Virage TX, 2001, 1200 I wondered could it be the coupling, but I thought it would not be able to slip as it feels like a solid coupling? It does have rubber though?
How can I test it?
But our right it does sound like a fan belt slip almost

I would replace it, and or check your pump alignment. Have you had the engine out? If so did you do a pump alignment, shim the engine so that the pump and the engine are aligned?

yes I had the engine out, I havent got an alignment tool (in Australia) but the shaft slips in & out very easily & the hull through fitting is new, so, I was hoping the alignment was ok.

I would be willing to bet it is not aligned. Wich is putting it in a bind and slipping the coupler. Maybe someone else will chime in and say something diffrent, but that would be my call.

It really does sound like something is slipping, so you may be right. Same sound (almost) like when ski jumps out of water & lands back in water if the throttle is on... but longer, but as soon as its on the plane, its perfect?

The rubber bonded coupler isn't really designed to slip but it's designed to dampen vibration however like Rodneyae says if they fail they can slip internally and need to be replaced but I'm not sure this is your issue however? I'm curious on the wear ring install?

The wear ring was installed as the old one was effected by corrosion..
After hearing the noise I pulled the jet pump apart & there is no contact going on a all there, so I "think" thats fine?
I would have thought if the coupling gave up, it would be just spinning all the time?
