Intake grate hangs down below rideplate

Intake grate is about 1/8" below rideplate. I did a search and found a thread about truing the grate to match the rideplate but all the pics were gone so I couldn't follow what had been done. It seems like it would be easiest to take down the inside part of the grate that mates up with the 3 mounting holes right?
What's the best tool to use? Belt sander?
If there is a thread with pics if somebody would post a link that would be great cuz I can't find it. Thanks

    These pics should help you

You can use a palm sander with some 80 grit sand paper and then work you way to some 220 to finish it off.
Even better if you have a 4" angle grinder with a conditioner pad

    Thanks, Jerry!
I have a 4" angle grinder but it just has the stone wheel that came with it. Maybe I could do most of the work with it and then do the rest with a sanding block.
I was thinking of machining the inside part of the grate instead of the outside but now I'm wondering if removing metal from the inside might weaken the grate causing it to break?
Also, see the little V notch on either side of the grate between the grate and the ride plate. That notch is where every piece of seaweed/debris catches and hangs up. I'm going to caulk in there real good which should help, but was wondering if there was anything else that could be done?

Lee, i wouldn't machine the inside of the grate as it will change the angle of the scoop on the intake grate.

i have tried siliconing those V notches, but it never stays in place.

I am getting ready to true my grate. On my RXT the grate is way below the ride plate. I thought i was suppose to remove the intake grate and grind the top side if it? Jerry your saying to grind the bottom side only? By bottom i mean the side facing down in the water.

I grinded the bottom side. If you grind the top side it will change the angle of the scoop on the grate.

A slight step from the back of the grate to the ride plate is such a bad thing?

I can see if step from the plate was inset if the ride plate...but if it sits a little proud?

I dunno...a stepped hull runs pretty good...don't it?

I assume that by sanding the bottom of the grate will not weaken it ?
