When set up right, a XPL can get over 70mph and flirt with 73-74 area....But once there the motor reliablility is greatly reduced.....but 66-68 is a common area with specific mods and attention to detail.

For a good runabout, you can perform a few simple things that will keep the motor running strong and reliable, but have a nice KICK to have fun...

    - Level 1 upgrade....The removal of the stock restrictive airbox and replacement with free flowing flame arrestors. Rejetting to compensate for the additional airflow. Milled head for higher compression. Match it with a new prop and you will have a fast ski, easily 63-64mph...These items will bring your ski from a stock 130hp and raise it about 12-15%, weather depending...All these items can be done to your existing factory stuff by www.perryperformancegroup.com down in Florida.

    * * make sure the motor is in good condition before doing such mods. Make sure there is no issues, and compression is good (around 130psi)...Anything that is wrong with the motor will not allow you to take full advantage of the kit...

    - Intake grate and sponsons...The grate will help you stay hooked up in choppy water, and the sponsons will help you turn better.

    - Some items that have been proven on the larger 4tec machines, such as filling ride plate holes, sanding down the intake to be flush with ride plate, etc...those all add up too.

Other items such as mats, bow-spray deflector, seat cover, etc....are all small items that enhance the ride...

Im looking at a 2000 RX. Its got 23hrs left on the bidding and is at $1300 right now, but, it says this "The Jet Ski starts right up however there is some work which may need to be done. Our mechanic suggests this Jet Ski will need a rebuilt Jet pump. In addition, there is a slight knock when the engine is running. It is believed to need a short block." How much would that cost to fix.

I've sent my engine to them for a rebuild, it wasn't that bad...Call them up, email them, they will take care of you...

the rx is heavier and will not get the same speed as an xpl with the same parts.

True, but after riding both with the Level 1 I prefer the stability of the RX...

either way, its a personal preference...
