    Installing 787 in gtx

    I have a 787 0ut of a seadoo challenger jet boat.I am going to put it in a 96 gtx.Do you need to have an alinment tool? Also are the motor mounts the same ?

    I believe that the 96 gtx had the 787 motor so yes the mounts should be the same, and yes you need an alignment tool if you expect your pump bearings to last.

    Thanks for the advise on the alinment tool.But I don't plan on changing the motor all the time. Is there a place or someone to rent one ?I live in Southern Illinois.There is a Seadoo shop up towards St louis, but I am doing this on my own. So really would hate to pay just to align the motor.

    there are ways of aligning the engine without the alignment tool. with the pump removed and the drive shaft in place, move the drive shaft up/down and side to side. if you have the same distance from the shaft to the pump tunnel in each direction, the engine is aligned. i did it this way on my ski and put over 100 hours on it before i sold it with no problems. get it as close as you can, but it doesn't need to be perfect. that's why the splines on the shaft are rounded, to allow for some minor mis-alignment.
