END THE BANN!!!!! S.Florida Riders Please read as well as all others.. ASAP!!!

Please help us South Floridians out help us end this Bann any way you can...

    Dear PWC Enthusiast,

The BOAT Biscayne Coalition believes the voices of PWC owners need to be heard by your local elected officials. It’s time law abiding riders enjoy the same safe and reasonable access as do all other boats on the Intracoastal Waterway (ICW) through Biscayne National Park.

On December 19, 2007, the Monroe County Board of Commissioners will act on a recommendation from the county Marine and Port Advisory Council to sign a letter urging the park service to cease the discrimination and allow for the safe passage of personal watercraft between greater Miami and the Keys. This is about fairness, common sense, and most importantly safety, and your voice is needed.

Please join with BOAT Biscayne Coalition members from the American Watercraft Association (AWA) and other freedom of access activists by attending the Monroe County Commission meeting on December 19, 2007 at 2:30 p.m.

    WHAT:
Monroe County Board of County Commissioners meeting

    WHERE:
    Marathon Government Center
2798 Overseas Highway Marathon, FL (Mile Marker 47.5 Gulf)

    TIME:
    2:30 PM

We know this is a busy time of year, but a few hours of your time will go a long way to securing free and equal access along the 17 miles of the ICW that traverses through Biscayne and which only PWC are prohibited from. These elected officials work for you, and they need to hear from you.

If you don’t reside in Monroe, yet own a second home there, you have a voice. If you have family, friends or know fellow PWC owners in Monroe, please urge them to join you in contacting the commissioners. We’re asking for fair and equal, commonsense treatment, and most importantly safety. What could be more right?

At a minimum, please e-mail the Chairman of the Board of Commissioners, George Neugent. He can be reached at [email protected]. Please urge him to support fairness, equality and safety by signing a letter to restore personal watercraft access to the ICW for Floridians.

If you have any questions, e-mail us at [email protected].

    Thanks,

    I sent this email

text of email sent to the Monroe Commissioner:
    ***********
    Dear Mr. Neugent,

I understand that you have a meeting scheduled for next
week concerning the traversing of PWC's from Miami to
the Keys. There are many of us who operate these craft
and in many cases have been boaters for many years.

Today's modern 4 stroke Jetskis are possibly the most
environmentally friendly machine out there. They pass
California's most stringent emission control standards.
They are very quiet in comparion to machines of the 1990's.
They only draw a few inches of water while underway, and
at most 12" in a no wake slow speed mode. They do not
harm the sea grass beds and are far more friendly to marine
life since there is no exposed propeller.

PWC enthusiasts range from 14 years to over 70 years.
The great majority are family people in their 20's, 30's and 40's.
They spend money in restaurants and hotels. These good
visitors are denied the right to use Federally maintained waterways
to run from Miami to the Keys.

I would encourage you to use your county's influence to prod
the powers that be to lift this very unfair ban that discriminates
against a group of boaters who have chosen to buy a Jetski.

    thanks for your attention,

    Tom Gregory

    Negative Vote in Marathon Yesterday

The Monroe county board of commissioners voted to not endorse
a change in the PWC ban on the ICW from Miami to the Fl Keys.
The reasoning is that it is a Federal navigational issue and not
within their power or interest to pursue. Several industry businessess
including Riva and Broward Motorsports made presenations. Chris Manthos
and Wiley Russell of the AWA were there in person to lend support to the cause.
I think we now need to make some noise and perhaps provoke a test
case to challenge the Biscayne National Park's ruling. Its seems that
the State of Florida, FL Wildlife Commission, City of Miami, Dade County,
etc in favor of relaxing the ban. Stay tuned for any developments.
There may be a "media event" soon to get some light shining on this black
    hole of governmental inequity!

    Tom
