    Sponsons

I was thinking about getting some aftermarket sponsons for this spring. The plan is to race in some events in region 5 with my new setup in an open class this coming spring/summer. Figured sponsons might help out?

Anyways I am currently running just the stock but stepped sponsons. Do aftermarkets scrub speed? Are there some better than others? I relize I could use the search function but as with many things as time goes on people find out new stuff and new products come out.

The RIVA sponsons are very good for cornering, especially like in closed course and many supercourse type racing conditions. They do however, scrub a small amount of speed. The mounting plate sits a bit deeper into the water than the stockers which just creates a bit more drag.

You really do not need aftermarket sponsons in endurance race type conditions, because many of the turns are just wide sweeps. In closed course conditions, good cornernig sponsons are almost an absolute must.

I've always felt that good aftermarket sponsons were a safety necessity. There may be a small loss in speed but the rapid turning ability at any speed is well worth the trade off IMO. All of my boats have them.

The new black Riva's are good and so are the R&D.

If your goin to race. Do yourself a favor and get your top speed of your ski and toss it. Means pretty much nothing. Definetly get some RIVA or R&Ds. Its all about hookup and speed out the turns.

Well the ski will be 80+ mph 1390 BB. So speed is relative I guess to the rider. I am sure it will be slow to me after a while.

    So riva's are the best?

The Riva ones seem to turn a little better but the white paddles flex and crack, try to get the newer black paddles.

FYI BB1390 is just a tad bit illegal. Biggest bore you can go with that is legal is 80.5 mm.
