    Why does the SC even have a clutch?

    what is the clutch's purpose?

    why isnt the supercharger just driven "rigidly" off the crank etc...?

    because without it the gear or shaft would break. Real quick too.

    i guess we should answer your ???? the rpm change drastically when the boat comes in and out of the water ..the inertia of the impellar would snap the shaft ..when the motor slows suddenly upon reconnecting / re entering the water
