    can i have a cracked crankcase welded?

    i have a polaris 1200 with a spun #1 rod that put a 2" crack in the lower unit of the crankcase around the bolt hole housing on the side,and a small crack in the very bottom..can this be welded? nebee here so any help would be appreciated..thanks

    Yes, they can be welded. However, you might be able to find a case reasonable.

    IMO, I would rather try to find a good case.

    If you get the cases welded,need to make sure the guy knows what he is doing,need to make sure the weld/cases are air tight. You do not want an air leak,it will not run properly,may burn a piston.

    Also another thought, Depending on how big the crack is.....

    It might warp the case just enough to make the crank bearings wear. Not sure if this is possible or not, but just a thought. Anyone?

    i have had mine welded and i have had no problem with an air leak.

    Depends on where the crack is...... Do you have any pics? And yes this is a real possibilty.

    i will post some pic soon..since i spun the rod.(rod looks like a fish hook)..will in need to have the crank replaced,or is there a way to test it to see if its bad or not?

    If it bent the rod I would bet that the crank is out of index. I would have it checked if I were you. Better to be safe than sorry.
