Is there a MFD and EMM relationship?

This is on my 2000 Genesis FFI-the saga continues
Today was told that there is a relationship between a bad MFD and the ability of the ski to start causing people to think it may be a bad EMM.
Trying to understand if it is fact or fiction?
Early on before the ski stopped starting, the MFD while I was riding would act up with odd characters if I would push the 2 buttons to activate the depth finder. In fact, it would show half the digital display. If I pulled the plug behind the dash and replugged it in, it worked fine except for no depth finder.
The engine turns over freely, but refuses to start.
One shop thought flywheel issue. Pulled the engine and that was perfect.
So engine out and I plan to clean everything and sell (see classified).
But if not the EMM, is it worth fixing?
Sending the EMM tomorrow to have it checked, but interested in hearing other thoughts.
Or forget everything and part out?

Would it allow it to crank over, yet not fire or would it be nothing at all if the MDF was bad?
    Thanks for your reply.
