    Calling All Performance Engine Builders

Ok Guys, I would like to build a 408 CID for my 99 Silverado 2500. I am thinking about buying a 408 short block, L92 heads and L92 truck intake with cable throttle body. My question is what cam would make this a beast but still be able to tow my ski around? The most I will probably tow is 2 skis.

I have thought about it but I don't know any good machine shops in the Austin, TX area.

I have also even considered buy a new a 6.0L block for $700 and a 408 rotating assembly, and take a chance on a local machine shop. When done sell my old engine to help with the cost of the new one.

this should keep you occupied for a while

    http://www.motorsporttech.com/

they are in houston and know a thing or two about GEN III LS motors

or you could go balls to the wall and do a diesel conversion and have all the torque and power you could ever need

I ran a 408 in 2 of my vettes for 5 years, get the gm block for 600, and get a good, balanced recip....w/ the L-76/L92 combo and a 222/240ish cam on a 112 would have a sweet. lobey idle and still have killer torq, only needing a slightly looser convertor to prevent idle surge/creep in gear. Over 500 flywheel hp easy

Thank you , I figured you would chime in. My chevy truck forum told me to get a good set of AFR heads because swapping from a LQ4 intake to the L76/L92 would cost too much. Scoggin Dickey has the L92 heads for $550 and they are to good to 0.650" of lift, granted they will need a very good porting job, but they still flow 300+ cfm in stock form.

I am looking a stroker kit with Eagle Crank, Eagle Rods, and Diamond Pistons. I have used Eagle Crank, Eagle Rods, and JE Pistons in a mild BBC and had very good luck with this combination but have never heard of Diamond Pistons but they seem to be of very good quality from my research. I have also heard on my truck forum that Eagle cranks suck because they can not be balanced, the machine shop that balanced my BBC had no problem balancing and I watched them do it, kinda like watching paint dry . I think Lunati is overpriced for what I want.

The only camshaft I could find so far is Katech LS7 Torquer Cam, this looks like one mean cam. I am still looking.

    Edit:

    Here's another by Lingenfelter.
