    Head gasket options for 4-tec

    Hey guys,
After taking the motor apart I noticed the head gasket "sandwich" is pretty thick. Is it worthwhile to install a different gasket or maybe not use all four layers for a bump in compression? Is the copper gasket in the store thinner? is that for turbo apps? Just wondering what the general thought process on this is.

the stock head gasket has 4 layers !, you dont want any higher compression with a high boost setup like the turbo.

ROTAX RACING offers a 2 layer head gasket to get higher compression without new pistons or machining the head, but that is not good for the turbo or high boost SC

Steve, with the S3 you can drill out the rivets on the stock gasket and remove two layers. With a Rude Charger or bigger SC/Turbo stick with stock thickness.

Yes...about that Copper Head Gasket...when to use, when is it needed...?
    Please educate me/us...thanks!

The OEM Head Gasket and the Plastic Intake Manifold are the 'weak' links for a High Boost/Turbo motor...right...?

I have never tested the copper head gasket so i can't comment. I have used the stock head gasket with great success as have others. 22 psi is no problem with the stock head gasket.

Has anyone had problems with head gasket failure between two cylinders? We have a stage three rxp that has now done 4 wsm headgaskets we are running the engine block guard and the headgasket failure has now eaten the aluminium out of the block between #1 and #2 cylinders and #2 and #3 cylinders. Your help will be appreciated!!

Steve, make sure you take out the inner 2 layers. and put the 2 outside layers on your engine., that higher compression will work perfekt with a RIVA / ROTAX RACING ECU
