97 xp problems
hey gang i have a stock xp last few times out i was having stalling issues at wot , i tried tuning carbs a bit making sure it wasnt running too lean then the last time it did this it wouldnt start back up brought it home started inpecting the machine and this is what i found
starter is toast , both plug wires and engine ground were rotted at least an inch and a half back before i found good wire, and i am unable to turn the pto by hand , itook the pump off the boat and still cant turn the engine over by hand, so when this happens am i looking at just a top end rebuild or is a new motor needed? i will be removing the engine in the next week or two and start diggin in and i will take pictures to get some input
thanks for any input!

Motor is def locked up,I wouldnt wait 2 weeks or it maybe worse.
Pull starter first to see if that is locking it up & if it still dont turn...pull motor & disassemble.

was about to say if your starter is toast, then its probably whats locking up your motor. Hopefully you just need a starter. If thats the case, let me know I have some used oem starters that I need to get rid of for the 800 motor. May have some of the plug wires, etc. that you may need. Shoot me a pm.

I had mounting hardware issues with my starter on my 96 XP 800. The bolts backed out and dummied the threads on the outter bolt mount. It is a through hole so I would suggest you find a longer bolt with the same thread pitch and just add a good locking nut to the other side of the bolt. Nylock nuts are ok but the nylon wears out with vibration, I like the Keps locking nuts, they have that star type metal lock washer made on with them =)
