PET-2100 Clip Location
Where are you guys putting the alligator clip? Which plug wire and where at on the wire (towards the coils or the plug clips)? I rode the 97 Saturday and took the PET from the GPR. I put it on the middle wire close to the coil. It would read correctly at idle and cruising speeds, but at wide open throttle it would read correctly just for a little bit and drop down 300-400 RPM's and be all over the place. I tried putting it on #3 but it was 400RPM's low at idle so put it back on #3. I know it was not truly loosing RPM's, I was watching the GPS climb and climb with no change in the tone of the engine like it was loosing RPM's.
It was 75 degrees and humid with strong cross winds and it ran 68.8 without any rideplate bolt holes filled. The prop will be coming out soon and will be send to Impros for inspection and clean up. It has 170 hours on the prop and there are some cavitiation burns on the blades. I will also be replacing the impeller housing. I hope to be close to 70 with the cleaned up prop, new housing, and rideplate holes filled.

I had best results wrapping it around all 3 wires like a daisy chain. I also had some interference because of the length of the run from the e-box to the tach, so I replaced the wire with a piece of small sheilded wire.

I ran the wire along the side of some other wires that are in wire loom, and my bilge wire. I may have been getting some interference from that also. This is the same way it is ran on the GPR though without any issues.
Mike, so you wrapped it around all of 3 wires and then clipped it?

No clip. Start at the coil farthest from the tach. Tie wire around plug wire and loop once more. go to next coil and do 2 wraps. same for the 3rd. tie it and run the rest up to the dash. I think a post be either watcon or fercho gave me the idea. I thnk I have a pic at home that I can send you later.

Throw the alligator clip away and use a good shielded wire. I used the grounded wire off a dead TinyTach and it works great.
