the 140 is a smaler capacity 160 motor 992cc as oposed to the 160's 1052cc

Yeah like fx160 said...its simply a detuned 160 motor with about 60 more cc's than the fx140...my neighbor has an 04 fx140 and when i had the 05 stock vx 110 ( not stock anymore =P)...we would start off even and at around 35-40 I would take him...but acceleration is very similar with the two skis.

Aside from all the obvious differences,

Pistons used for the FX are forged whereas the VX's are just cast metal. The FXs con-rods are "carburized." VXs aren't. FX's exhaust use a more efficient "4-2-1" design. VX use a much simpler "4-1" exhaust system.

dont mean to steel your thread but im thinking about doing a 140 or 160 in a gpr my self.

what type of hp are all 3 motors pushing stock? are they fairly efficient motors gas wise? are the 160 and 140 the same physically?

    The FX140 engine feature a 140 horsepower, 998cc engine while the FX160 features a 160 horsepower, 1052cc engine.. go with the fx160 =P

FX140 is quicker than the 110vx so dont no how you manage to take him at 30 - 40, even if your vx has every standard mod done to it you have no chance your neighbour either has a fault or backs of the throtal at speed.

Not really, because the fx hull is much heavier and larger, plus the 140 motor may be 30HP more than the vx, but it lacks in torque compared to the vx engine. The fx140 makes it's power at very high rpms 10-11k, the vx still rev's out at 8k but makes more useable power at lower rpms. Plus the gas consumption is way less on the vx110. It just is more of a effiecient platform, both the engine and hull.

My sister had two fx 140's they were just the same in performance compared to the vx, but the vx felt more playfull and lighter. Better looking too, imo.

That's pretty alarming that Yamaha would use cast pistons in the VX.
I mean it doesn't rev out as high as the Fx, but the Vx motor still has high compression(164) and must take a beating reving out at 8k RPM.

Wonder what type the FXHO 160 exhaust is?....I thought it was the same as the Vx.

Brewster is right 200%...I Could have worded my post better though. Off the line he would take me by a ski length maybe 2 (if its rough) but at 35ish I pull next to him and its a battle at the end (54 mphish)...in no chop vx shines over the fx140. With a 3 foot swell the fx is more productive. But imo vx is a better ski and much more playful like brewster said.
