    stock intercooler

i dont know about this but am just wondering if anyone has removed the stock intercooler with out having an external intercooler if there were any gains in rpm as it would have less restriction in the intake? just one of those akward questions

I doubt it. as the air gets heated as it is compressed (Ie. boost pressure) with the hot air you will loose performance.

Yes its called an 185hp GTX. Do you know what purpose the intercooler serves?

If you run a high boost supercharger without an intercooler you could have serious problems with detonation which is not good for your engine....... too much heat= blown engine

yes i know what an intercooler serves im a heavy equiptment mechanic but was just thinking about the restriction of air flow it would have

So how restrictive do you think it is? That a nonintercooled engine could outperform a intercooled one. Danny has done all the flow tests on all this and it is restrictive but that is a realitive term. All intercoolers are restrictive to some extent. It's only more restrictive because the air has to flow around it rather than through it. Like I said all you have to do is compare the GTX SC at 185hp to the GTX Limited SCIC at 215hp.

Remember that the stock intercooler is made of copper, and copper exhange the heat 6 times worse than allu...
I don't think you would gain any by romoving it, buy not loose any either. But the engine would prefer cold air, so stick to the stock intercooler insted of removing it. Just my 0.02

    I've actually done this test:

2004 RXP, Totally stock except - no air intake at all, Riva grate, no intercooler.

Water was 65 deg and air was 72. I weigh 190 lb and had 1 bar of fuel.

GPS speed was 69.2 mph, and that was without any sealant on the greenhulk blockoff plate.

I was actually surprised it went that fast. I was counting on 66-67.

Just thought you guys might find this interesting.

Conditions were good and it had no air intake and a Riva grate. I would have expected a stock RXP + grate - air intake to go 70-71 in the same conditions, so the stock intercooler adds 1-2 mph.

BTW, the there are more difference between the 185 hp motor and the 215. The 185 has a lower rev limiter, difference ecu calibration, and I think different SC drive ratio.
