    big bore or tripples

Wanting upper 70's. what should i go with tripples or big bore? i am mechanicly inclined but i dnt know how to do all these small mods ppl keep doing to get speeds with big bore and i cant buy a kit for the grate and tabs and ride plate stuff. i want to bolt on and set jets and go. i think tripples be cheaper right?

My vote would be big bore single, but take time to figure out how to do the :LITTLE THINGS: because you can get more speed from that then you can just tossing horsepower at it.

In the short term it might be the cheapist but there are some tradeoffs with pipes.

Many people are getting upper 70s with porting their current platform. Some have been able to do it without even porting.

Start by telling us what you have now (year and mods) and everyone could help out a little better.

    this is my mods
i plan on getting my plate redone by jim.
    2001 gp1200r
    free flow exhaust
    d plate
    14/20 impeller
    re-jetted
    double bar intake grate
    riva ride plate
    R&D 41cc rec head
    advent cdi
    riva trim tabs
    riva flame arrestors
plus some sanding on the hull and some other spots.
price matters too. i know i can get tripples for like a grand and i dno how much a big bore will cost. I hear that big bore is less work but i think if i run tripples alittle rich i wont have any problems. what u guys think? U guys are the best so show it.

Maybe it is just me, but your last sentence kinda rubs me the wrong way.
The people on this site ARE the best. The results speak for themselves.
Good luck with your quest, IMO, the big bore keeps you riding and not as much tuning. DO the small things. They count.

Yeah that sentence caught my attentions well.... all I read was .... "blah blah blah....I'm a jerk" lets hope he didn't mean it like it came across

You might want to post that you have 1200 cylinders for trade your cylinders and $$ for guy looking to go bb that has 1300 cylinders. Then you gain 100 cc at much reduced cost. Get your ride plate done and fine tune and you should be mid 70s reliably. If upper 70s(78-79) is goal... then bigbore 1390 will cost you about 2200. Duke has experience with triple pipes ( I have none) so perhaps he can chime in again on the tradeoffs.

It is possible to get a 1200 to 75 ish. I think your best bet though is to go BB. That can put you in the 80mph range for about 2k and you won't have to wrench on it as much as you would with a tripple pipe.

Looks like you could go either way by your current mods. You do
need to upgrade to the newer 05 pump and Dynafly prop. If you go 1390
you could see speed a little over 80 mph tunned correctly. It could
run you from $2100 to $2500 depending on if you need core cylinders,
valves or head for the setup. If you went triples, its some posted for
a $1000 in the classified. That would be the cheapest way to go, but
you will need some good tunning experience with either setup. I
have seen speed from 82 to 85 mph using a stock 1200 motor with
triples and stock carbs. I triple boat is very easy to tune since the carbs
are easy to get too, but the rear pipe will crack over time. So
there is always a bad side to every setup.
