    GPR 1200 problem

    Here the problem. The rear coil is firing but the cylinder is cold to the touch. At low end the ski bogs, but after half or 3/4 throttle is seems to run pretty good. We have checked the coils it is firing. The ski will run on number 1 and 2 coil, independently when started, but nr 3, the throttle has to be opend 1/2 to 3/4 for it to start, when it does it only runs for a short time. Open the electrical box and swap the coil/plug wires around, and same indications. Inside the elecrical box, the number 2 wire was swapped to the nr 3 coil, and that coil was put on the nr 2 cylinder, proving the coil was good.

    Have swapped to a different set of carbs, same indication.

    Any suggestion?

    What CDI do you have...OEM or?
    Whats your compression on all 3?
    Have you tried switching CDI's?

    GPR 1200 Problem

    CDI: OEM

    Compression: NR 1 & 2 125, NR 3 115.

    Have not tried another cdi

    I'll be the first one to admit that I am not a mechanic, but I have to ask if it is at all possible for the power valve on # 3 to be broken and stuck in the open position? When was the last time you clecked/cleaned your PV's?

    Your symptoms : Low compression, bogs, but after 1/2 to 2/3 throttle a good top end .....

    I asked because my PV broke and stuck in the closed position. Symptoms included higher than normal compression, good hole shot, but bad top end with a loss of 250 rpms. I would expect the opposite if it stuck open.

    Just typing out loud.

    Hi Charles - long time no chat! how you doin? Hear from Gale at all? I haven't heard from him in a long time...don't have his contact info...I'm here in Dallas doing some visiting for a little while...

    Swapping the CDI is a simple test if you have one available...How about the plug wire or cap?

    I'd also check the rear crank seal. That cylinder is the only one low - if you have an air leak drawing in too much fuel at low rpms, might be keeping the cylinder from firing.

    How does it idle?

    You've already swapped the carbs. Have you done a leak down check?
